Hike to the commanding ridgeline of the Kivalot Hills with a naturalist guide, then descend to a historic Jäger cabin for a fireside Finnish coffee ritual with traditional pastries — a rare blend of wilderness and wartime history.
What to expect
The trail winds through birch and pine before opening onto sweeping panoramas of the Bothnian coast and, on clear days, across to Sweden. Your guide narrates the ecology of the taiga as you climb — pointing out reindeer lichens, cloudberry patches, and signs of wolverine. At the summit, the views are genuinely breathtaking. The descent leads to a restored 1940s Jäger cabin where the guide brews strong Finnish coffee on a wood stove and serves korvapuusti (cardamom buns) — a moment of cosy warmth after the exhilaration of the ridge.
