Go behind the copper pot stills of Mount Gay — the world's oldest rum distillery — for an intimate premium tasting guided by a master blender, in the island that literally invented rum.
What to expect
A private car whisks you from Bridgetown's cruise terminal to the Mount Gay estate in St. Lucy, the scenic northern tip of Barbados. Your master blender guide walks you through 350 years of distilling history, from colonial copper pot stills to state-of-the-art column distillation. In the private tasting room, nosing glasses of rare single-barrel expressions and XO reserves are poured alongside locally made Bajan snacks. You'll craft your own blend to take home in a personalised bottle — a one-of-a-kind souvenir. The estate boutique stocks limited-release expressions unavailable elsewhere.
Good to know
The Heritage Tour must be pre-booked directly on the Mount Gay website — it sells out weeks in advance on busy port days. Bridgetown cruise terminal is approx. 20 minutes from the distillery; a private taxi runs about BBD 50 each way. Budget 3 hours total. Sensible footwear required for the warehouse floor.
