Join a truffle-hunting dynasty deep in the Motovun forest with trained dogs, then sit down to a multi-course feast of Istrian cuisine paired with indigenous wines. Istria produces the world's most prized white truffles — this is the source.
What to expect
A family member leads you through the ancient oak and hornbeam forest while trained Lagotto Romagnolo dogs quarry out fresh truffles from the earth. You learn to grade and clean the fungi before returning to the stone farmhouse. Lunch is extraordinary: truffle pasta, truffle eggs, truffle cheese, paired with Malvazija and Teran wines from the estate's own cellar. The family's warmth and generosity elevate this far beyond a meal.
Good to know
Best accessed from Rovinj or Pula port — the estate is approximately 60 km inland; the operator can arrange a private transfer (approx. EUR 80 each way for the car). Book 2–3 weeks ahead, especially October–November during peak white truffle season. Confirm transfer timing against your all-aboard. Smart-casual dress recommended for lunch.
