Climb inside the Statue of Liberty all the way to her crown, 22 stories above New York Harbor, then trace the footsteps of 12 million immigrants at Ellis Island — America's most emotionally resonant double act.
What to expect
The ferry departs Battery Park (a 10-minute cab from Pier 88/90 or 20 minutes from Red Hook). At the island, a ranger-led orientation leads you up 354 steps of the famous double-helix staircase to the crown's 25 tiny windows framing the harbor. Ellis Island follows: the Great Hall's echoing arches and the interactive immigration museum deliver unexpected emotional power. Allow 4–5 hours for both islands.
Good to know
Crown tickets sell out 2–3 months in advance — book the moment your itinerary is confirmed. No bags larger than a small backpack are permitted in the crown. Ships dock well before 8 am; the first ferry from Battery Park is 8:30 am, perfect for a morning run before an early all-aboard. Wear comfortable, flat shoes for the stairs.
