Delve into Samos's Byzantine soul at the cliff-carved Cave Monastery of Panagia Spiliani, then wander the UNESCO-listed ancient harbour town of Pythagorion — birthplace of Pythagoras — with a private local guide illuminating every stone.
What to expect
Your guide meets you at the port and drives to the dramatic hilltop monastery, where steps carved into living rock lead to an icon-filled cave sanctuary with sweeping views over the Aegean. From there, the walk through UNESCO-listed Pythagorion traces Roman baths, an ancient theatre, the famous Eupalinian Aqueduct tunnel entrance, and the yacht-lined harbour. The guide narrates each site with story and context that transforms ruins into living history.
Good to know
Modest dress required at the monastery (shoulders and knees covered; scarves often provided). Pythagorion is approximately 15–17 km from the main cruise port — taxi or private guide pickup is the most efficient approach. Entry to Heraion/archaeological sites is approx. EUR 10 per person separately.
