The critically endangered Tristan Albatross nests on Nightingale and Inaccessible Islands — and nowhere else on the planet. A specialist-led guided session to observe these magnificent birds with a 3-metre wingspan is among the rarest wildlife encounters in the world.
What to expect
Your ornithologist guide leads a small group of no more than 8–10 guests through the island's tussock grass highlands to locate active albatross nesting sites. You observe courtship displays and chick-rearing behaviour at respectful distances using high-quality binoculars. The guide explains the ongoing conservation battle against invasive mice, giving the experience a powerful emotional dimension beyond pure wildlife spectacle. Expect 2 hours on the ground with extraordinary photographic opportunities.
Good to know
This excursion is entirely subject to landing conditions and conservation authority approval on the day. Bring a telephoto lens (200mm+) for best photography results. Layers are essential — Southern Atlantic weather changes rapidly. Book your voyage berth as early as possible; Nightingale landings are among the rarest in expedition cruising.
