Descend into one of the world's deepest canyons at sunrise to witness Andean condors — the largest flying birds on Earth — soaring at eye level on thermal currents. Profoundly wild, profoundly beautiful.
What to expect
Your private 4x4 departs pre-dawn from Arequipa, winding up through volcanic highlands dotted with vicuñas and llamas. Reach the Cruz del Condor viewpoint as the first light fills the 3,400-metre-deep canyon. Andean condors — wingspans up to 3.2 metres — launch from their rock ledges and rise effortlessly to your eye level. Descend into the canyon on a private trail with your guide, passing pre-Inca terracing still farmed by Collagua communities today.
Good to know
Depart by 3:30 AM for the 3.5-hour drive to reach the viewpoint at the right time. Full-day excursion — confirm with all-aboard time. Bring a warm layer; canyon rim temperatures at dawn drop below 5°C even in summer.
