Attend a chamber concert in the Villa Rufolo's clifftop gardens — inspiration for Wagner's Parsifal — then walk the ancient Marine Republic of Amalfi and explore its Arab-Norman cathedral. Culture, scenery, and music fused in one extraordinary day.
What to expect
A private car winds up the vertiginous corniche to Ravello, 350 metres above the sea, arriving at the 11th-century Villa Rufolo in time to stroll the terraced gardens before the concert begins. Strings and piano carry across the Gulf in the open air — one of Italy's most purely cinematic musical experiences. Afterwards, the car descends to Amalfi for a long lunch of sfogliatella and fresh-caught pesce at a harbourside restaurant, followed by the Cathedral of Sant'Andrea with its gilded Byzantine mosaics and dramatic black-and-white striped façade.
Good to know
Concerts at Villa Rufolo typically run June–September; check the schedule at ravelloarts.org and book tickets well in advance as they sell out. Drive time from Salerno to Ravello is approximately 45–60 minutes depending on coastal traffic. Allow at least 6 hours for the full combined experience. Evening concerts require careful checking against all-aboard time — afternoon matinée performances are the safer option for cruise guests.
