Hammond Castle: Medieval Banquet Hall & Inventor's Lair

Step inside the oceanfront medieval castle that inventor John Hays Hammond Jr. built stone-by-stone from authentic European antiques — a jaw-dropping fusion of Romanesque, Gothic, and Renaissance architecture perched above the Atlantic. One of New England's most surreal and storied landmarks.

What to expect

The tour winds through Gothic great halls hung with armor and tapestries, a dining room reassembled from a 15th-century French château, and Hammond's private laboratory where he pioneered remote-control technology. The castle's sea-facing terrace offers sweeping Atlantic views. Docents share the fascinating, often theatrical history of Hammond himself — confidant to presidents and friend to P.T. Barnum.
