Climb inside Lady Liberty herself to the Crown — 354 steps above New York Harbor — for a view fewer than 240 people a day are permitted to see. This is the rarest ticket in New York City.
What to expect
After boarding the official ferry from Battery Park or Liberty State Park, you ascend 354 steps through the statue's interior, passing the double-helix staircase and the original torch on display. At the Crown, 25 small windows frame sweeping views of Manhattan, Brooklyn, and the open Atlantic. The experience is deliberately unhurried — groups are tiny and timed. Descend through the Statue of Liberty Museum, which houses the original 1886 torch flame, before boarding the ferry onward to Ellis Island.
Good to know
Crown tickets must be booked directly at statuecitycruises.com — often 3–6 months ahead. All-aboard times are critical; confirm your ship's schedule and allow 4–5 hours minimum. Ferry departs Battery Park (Manhattan) or Liberty State Park (New Jersey). Arrive 30 min before your ferry time.
