Plunge into impossibly blue, gin-clear freshwater pools deep in the Santo jungle — the Nanda and Matevulu Blue Holes are among the most surreal natural swimming holes on earth, fed by ancient underground aquifers.
What to expect
The vivid cobalt colour of these holes is caused by the refraction of sunlight through mineral-rich, perfectly clear water — photographs look retouched but are entirely real. You'll swim and float in waters that maintain a perfect 27 °C year-round, surrounded by overhanging jungle and birdsong. Nanda, in particular, feels like swimming inside a sapphire — the silence and the colour are otherworldly.
Good to know
Wear water shoes and a rash vest. Both holes are 20–35 min from the wharf by road. The Matevulu rope swing is exhilarating but optional. Book the morning slot — afternoon light makes photography less dramatic and the drive back tighter against all-aboard.
