Glide deep into the Amazon estuary's labyrinthine mangrove channels aboard a private motor-launch, spotting pink boto dolphins, scarlet macaws, and river otters in their undisturbed habitat. This is Brazil's most iconic wildlife encounter — utterly unlike anywhere else on earth.
What to expect
Your naturalist guide meets you dockside and escorts you aboard a cushioned, canopied motor-launch into the mosaic of flooded forest and open channels defining the Barra Norte estuary. Scan the tannin-dark waters for the unmistakable blush-pink arc of boto dolphins surfacing beside the bow. Binoculars and a telephoto lens earn their keep as toucans and herons command the canopy above. Conclude with chilled açaí sorbet and a freshly cracked coconut served on deck as you drift back under the late-morning light.
Good to know
Departs from the main cruise tender/pier; allow 3–3.5 hours including transit. Book the morning slot (08:00) to be back comfortably before all-aboard. Pre-book directly at least 48 hours ahead — private launches fill fast on port days. Bring insect repellent, a hat, and light long sleeves.
