Poliochni on Lemnos's eastern coast predates Troy — a 5,000-year-old Bronze-Age settlement and one of the most important prehistoric sites in the Aegean. Paired with the Archaeological Museum of Lemnos in Myrina, this is a world-class history immersion.
What to expect
You cross the island to the windswept eastern cape where the ruins of Poliochni spread across a low promontory above the sea. Your guide — a specialist in Aegean prehistory — brings the excavated streets, granaries, and assembly hall to life, explaining why Italian archaeologists have worked here for nearly a century. Back in Myrina, the Archaeological Museum houses the exquisite gold jewellery, ceramics, and artefacts unearthed here, including pieces that rival finds from Mycenae. The combination of site and museum takes roughly four hours and leaves a lasting impression of Greece's deep, largely unsung prehistory.
Good to know
The site is remote and sun-exposed; bring water and a hat. Museum is closed on Tuesdays — confirm your port day before booking. Site entry is payable at the gate (approx EUR 4 per person). Allow 4–5 hours total for both sites.
