Descend into one of France's most spectacular underground cathedrals — the Aven d'Orgnac, a Grand Site de France with jaw-dropping stalagmite forests reaching 30 metres tall. An expert-led descent into 100,000 years of geological splendour.
What to expect
A lift descends 100 metres into the earth, where expert guides lead groups of no more than 25 through a sequence of cavernous halls draped in calcite columns, stalagmite towers, and crystalline formations. The 'Great Room' alone — 250 metres long and 40 metres high — stops every visitor in their tracks. The on-site Cité de la Préhistoire museum weaves the cave's geology into the broader story of Ardèche's prehistoric human habitation. Temperature underground is a constant 13°C — bring a light layer.
