Palermo & Recoleta: Private Architecture & Cemetery Masterclass

Explore the flamboyant mausoleums of Recoleta Cemetery — where Evita Perón rests among Argentina's elite — then tour Palermo's grand boulevards and Belle Époque mansions with a private architectural historian.

What to expect

Recoleta Cemetery is one of the world's great outdoor sculpture museums: 4,800 mausoleums packed into a city block, ranging from weeping marble angels to Modernista glass-and-bronze chapels. Your historian traces the political and social history of Argentina through the epitaphs and architecture, ending at the Duarte family vault where Evita was finally interred. From there you move to the leafy Palermo Chico embassy district, reading the stories of mansions built by cattle barons who modeled their city on Haussmann's Paris. A café stop at a traditional confitería rounds out the morning.

Good to know

Recoleta Cemetery is free entry; open daily 7 AM–6 PM. The tour runs approximately 4 hours — ideal for morning departures. Transfer from port included. Buenos Aires is a large city; traffic can be unpredictable, so a 90-minute buffer before all-aboard is recommended.
