Fengdu Ghost City: Private After-Hours Lantern Tour

After day-trippers have departed, descend into Fengdu's legendary 'Ghost City' by lantern light — a hillside complex of temples, demon sculptures, and afterlife mythology unlike anywhere else on earth. Eerie, theatrical, and utterly one-of-a-kind.

What to expect

Your guide leads you through the gates of Mingshan Hill as the last public visitors leave, lantern in hand. Temple halls devoted to the Ten Courts of Hell glow with painted murals and lacquered statues; your guide narrates the Taoist and Buddhist afterlife mythology woven into every corner. The hilltop Ming Shan pavilion reveals the Yangtze glittering below in the evening. The experience concludes with a private transfer back to the pier.

Good to know

After-hours access requires advance coordination — book at least 3–4 weeks ahead. Fengdu is a standard Yangtze cruise port call; verify your ship's overnight or evening schedule. The hill involves a steep climb; a cable car is available (approximately CNY 30 extra). Dress in layers as evenings can be cool on the river.
