Gustave's Secret Staircase: Guided Eiffel Tower Walk

Climb the original wrought-iron spiral staircase designed by Gustave Eiffel himself — a rarely-chosen alternative to the lift that reveals 1,665 steps of engineering genius and intimate iron-lace detail.

What to expect

From the ground you enter through the tower's east or west leg and begin the climb through layer after layer of interlocking ironwork. Each landing reveals a wider panorama and closer inspection of the 18,000 individual iron pieces Eiffel used. At the first floor the glass floor rewards those who've made it this far with a vertiginous downward view. The second floor, 115 metres up, feels genuinely earned.
