Private Rhino Trekking at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary

Walk on foot alongside Africa's only wild white rhinos at Uganda's Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary — a conservation triumph and one of the continent's most intimate wildlife encounters. Your private ranger guide leads you through open savannah to find the herd at close, heart-stopping range.

What to expect

You set off on foot through golden grass and acacia scrub at dawn, when rhinos are most active. Your ranger reads fresh tracks and dung, building anticipation before the animals materialise — massive, prehistoric, utterly unhurried — just metres away. The sanctuary also harbours shoebill storks, Uganda kob, and over 300 bird species, making the walk rich from start to finish. A naturalist debrief over fresh bush coffee rounds off the morning.
