Paddle the glassy, jungle-flanked Rio Chavón at first light in a private guided kayak session, then pull ashore for a chef-prepared Dominican breakfast in a hidden riverside clearing. Untouched, cinematic, and utterly exclusive.
What to expect
Your guide meets you at the river launch before dawn and paddles you downstream as the sky turns amber and rose above the jungle canopy. The Rio Chavón is calm and mirror-flat at this hour, reflecting the cliffs and tropical vegetation perfectly. Halfway through the paddle, the guide beaches the kayaks at a private clearing where a local chef has laid out a table with fresh tropical fruits, Dominican pastries (yaniqueques), locally grown coffee, and fresh-pressed cacao juice. The return paddle brings you back to the marina well before the day heats up.
Good to know
Departs 5:45 a.m. — arrange port transport the evening before with your guide. Total duration is approximately 3 hours, making it ideal to pair with an afternoon excursion to Saona or Altos de Chavón. No prior kayaking experience needed; the river is completely calm.
