Glide through the jade-green mangrove estuary of Celestún in a private lancha to encounter thousands of wild flamingos in their natural habitat. One of the most spectacular wildlife spectacles in the Americas.
What to expect
Your private captain navigates the shallow tidal estuary at Celestún, gliding past mangrove tunnels draped in bromeliads and into open lagoons blazing pink with hundreds — sometimes thousands — of Caribbean flamingos. Watch frigatebirds, roseate spoonbills, and anhingas at eye level. Your naturalist guide narrates the ecology, then leads a walk through a freshwater spring that bubbles up through the sea floor — magical and surreal.
Good to know
Celestún is approximately 1 hour from Progreso port. Depart early (07:30–08:00) for the best flamingo activity before midday. Bring binoculars, a telephoto lens, and light layers. Private boats book out quickly in peak season.
