What to expect
Departing at first light, your naturalist guide drives deep into the Somiedo Natural Park, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve of ancient beech forests and glacial lakes. From carefully chosen hides and hillside vantage points, you'll scan for brown bears, wolves, and golden eagles with high-powered optics provided by the guide. Even if the bears remain elusive, the landscape alone — carpeted in wildflowers and watched by griffon vultures — is profoundly moving. Your guide provides expert commentary on the conservation programme that brought this population back from the brink.

This is an early-morning expedition — depart port by 5:30 am for the best sighting probability. The park is 1.5–2 hours from port; a full day of 9–10 hours is required. Bear sightings cannot be guaranteed — wildlife is wild. Dress in muted, earthy colours and bring binoculars if you have them. Book well in advance; this guide has very limited availability.
