Abu Qir Bay: Private Underwater Alexandria Snorkel & Sunken City Cruise

Glide over the submerged ruins of ancient Heracleion and the sunken royal quarter of Cleopatra's Alexandria in Abu Qir Bay — one of archaeology's great wonders, lying just beneath the surface. A private boat and an expert dive guide make this genuinely extraordinary.

What to expect

A sleek private tender departs from the marina and heads to Abu Qir Bay, where French archaeologist Franck Goddio's excavations revealed the drowned city of Thonis-Heracleion in 2000. Your PADI-certified guide briefs you on the submerged topography before you enter crystal-clear water above colossal statues, ceremonial vessels, and ancient docking infrastructure. Surface intervals include chilled refreshments on deck and expert commentary. The return sail offers stunning views of Alexandria's skyline from the sea.

Good to know

Abu Qir is 22 km east of Alexandria — approximately 35 minutes by private transfer. Full half-day excursion runs 5–6 hours; confirm all-aboard time before booking. Snorkelling requires basic swim competence; scuba requires Open Water certification. Sea conditions are calmest May–October. Book the private charter at least 2 weeks ahead.
