Brown Bear Viewing by Private Float Plane: Katmai National Park

Fly by private charter to the world-famous Brooks Falls in Katmai National Park to witness wild brown bears catching sockeye salmon mid-leap — one of nature's greatest wildlife spectacles, accessible only by air.

What to expect

A dedicated float plane carries your private group over the volcanic Alaska Peninsula before landing at Brooks Camp. A park ranger briefs your group on bear etiquette before you take your position on the famous elevated viewing platforms. You may witness up to a dozen brown bears simultaneously — massive, powerful, utterly wild — as they compete for the best fishing spots. Your guide provides naturalist commentary throughout, and there's time to walk the park's lakeshore trails between viewing sessions.

Good to know

Platform viewing time is tightly managed by the National Park Service; the operator handles all permits. The season peaks July–September when salmon runs are strongest. Dress in waterproof layers and wear sturdy footwear. This is a full-day excursion of 7–9 hours — confirm the all-aboard time before booking.
