Sunrise Sea-Kayak & Mangrove Wildlife Paddle

Glide silently through ancient mangrove lagoons at sunrise in a small-group sea-kayak expedition, encountering nesting herons, tarpon, and nurse sharks in their undisturbed habitat.

What to expect

Meet your guide at the water's edge at first light, when the lagoon glows amber and the birds are most active. Paddle through cathedral-like mangrove tunnels, the roots arching overhead, as your guide points out roosting frigate birds, juvenile tarpon threading the shallows, and — on lucky mornings — a resting nurse shark beneath the roots. Emerge into an open saltwater pond for birdwatching before returning through a different channel, completing a full circuit of the lagoon. Fresh coconut water and local pastries are served on the beach at the finish.

Good to know

Departs 06:30; no kayaking experience required (stable sit-on-top kayaks). Duration: 3 hours, back at the pier by 10:00 — well clear of all-aboard. Apply reef-safe sunscreen before launching. Wear a swimsuit and bring a dry bag for your phone. Advance booking strongly recommended as this is one of the port's most sought-after small-group experiences.
