St. Kitts Scenic Railway: The Last Great Plantation Train

Board the only surviving narrow-gauge railway in the Caribbean for a breathtaking loop around St. Kitts — past sugarcane fields, volcanic peaks, and shimmering coastline on an open-air double-decker that is a bucket-list ride in itself.

What to expect

The two-deck train departs from Needsmust Station and curves around the entire northeastern coast of the island, covering 30 miles of track through landscapes that range from lush tropical greenery to dramatic black-sand beaches and cloud-capped Mount Liamuiga. Upper-deck passengers enjoy fresh tropical cocktails and live local music performed by an onboard choir — a genuinely joyful, all-senses experience. The journey includes a minibus connection to complete the circle, so you see the entire island rather than doubling back. Narration from knowledgeable guides illuminates the island's complex plantation history with nuance and pride.
