Mount Liamuiga Volcano Crater Hike: Expert-Led Summit Trek

Conquer the dormant volcanic crater of Mount Liamuiga — St. Kitts's highest peak at 3,792 ft — on an expert-led small-group trek through primary rainforest to the steaming, cloud-wreathed rim. A true Caribbean bucket-list summit.

What to expect

The trail begins at the edge of the rainforest on Liamuiga's lower slopes, where your guide identifies medicinal plants used by Kittitians for centuries alongside tree ferns that tower six metres overhead. The forest canopy thickens as you gain altitude, with vervet monkeys audible in the canopy and the rare trembler bird — endemic to the northern Leeward Islands — occasionally breaking from the undergrowth. At the crater rim (allow 3–4 hours ascent), the view down into the sulphur-tinged caldera and out across the entire Caribbean arc is simply extraordinary. Descent is via a rope-assisted section through lush secondary forest, and your guide concludes with cold local sorrel juice and a picnic at the trailhead.
