Walk the actual earth of a Norse settlement with a private archaeologist who has excavated the site. This deeply intimate history experience brings the Viking Age to vivid, tangible life.
What to expect
You'll be met at the dock by your expert and driven in a private vehicle to the settlement site, approaching along a turf path lined with reconstructed longhouses. Inside, the archaeologist walks you through stratified soil layers, explaining what each deposit reveals about daily Norse life. You handle replica tools, jewellery, and weapons, and learn to read the landscape as the Vikings did. A private picnic of traditional Nordic fare is served amid the ruins.
Good to know
The full experience runs approximately 4.5 hours. Book at least 3 weeks in advance as this archaeologist-led private format is limited to 4–6 guests maximum. Wear sturdy flat shoes; parts of the site are uneven turf. Confirm all-aboard time with the ship and plan to return 90 minutes early.
