Join Jeju's legendary haenyeo — breath-hold diving women, a UNESCO Intangible Heritage — for an intimate morning on the rocks as they surface with abalone and sea urchin, then share their catch in a private coastal meal. Profoundly moving and utterly unrepeatable.
What to expect
You are collected from the cruise terminal and driven to a small coastal village where a haenyeo collective has worked the same stretch of sea for generations. You watch the women prepare in their traditional wetsuits, observe the diving session from the rocks at close range, and photograph freely. Afterwards, the haenyeo host a seafood spread — raw abalone, sea urchin bibimbap, grilled conch — in their communal bulteok (fire house). A bilingual cultural guide translates stories and answers every question.
Good to know
Departures coincide with morning low tide (typically 09:00); confirm the day before. The experience lasts approximately 3.5 hours. Transfers from Jeju Port included. Pre-book at least 2 weeks ahead — the haenyeo collective limits this to one private group per day.
