Beinisvørð Sea Cliffs: Edge-of-the-World Hike on Suðuroy

Stand atop Beinisvørð, the Faroe Islands' most dramatic sea cliff at 469m, where the Atlantic crashes far below and gannets wheel at eye level. A guide-led small-group traverse on Suðuroy's wild southern tip — utterly bucket-list.

What to expect

Your guide meets you at Vágur harbour and drives to the trailhead above the village of Lopra. The hike climbs through open moorland before the cliff edge emerges with shocking abruptness — nearly 500 metres of sheer basalt plunging into white surf. Atlantic puffins, fulmars, and gannets nest in the rock face at arm's length. The return route skirts a ridge with panoramic views of Suðuroy's entire southern coastline.

Good to know

Allow 4–5 hours including transfer. Vágur is a tender or direct call — confirm mooring type with the ship. Wear waterproof layers and sturdy hiking boots; the cliff-top is exposed and winds are fierce even in summer. Pre-book directly; private departures fill quickly on cruise days.
