A guided ridge hike across Suðuroy's high moorland to the Hvannhagi plateau — one of the most remote and visually staggering walks in the Faroe Islands, rewarding the sure-footed with 360° Atlantic vistas.
What to expect
Departing Vágur in the early morning, the trail climbs steeply through heather and bog cotton onto a high plateau where the only sounds are wind and golden plover song. The Hvannhagi ridge offers views across open ocean in every direction — on clear days you can see as far as Sandoy to the north. The guide points out ancient shielings (summer grazing huts) and explains the Faroese relationship with this landscape. A packed Faroese lunch — dried lamb, rye flatbread, and local cheese — is included.
