Trek through Gyeryongsan National Park's ancient pine forest to reach Gapsa, one of Korea's most sacred and atmospheric Buddhist temples — founded in 420 AD. An immersive, spiritually resonant bucket-list experience.
What to expect
Gyeryongsan (Dragon Mountain) is one of the most mythologised peaks in Korea, considered sacred in shamanist, Confucian, and Buddhist traditions. Your private guide leads a forest trail through towering pines to Gapsa Temple, where monks have prayed for over 1,600 years. You'll explore the main halls, discover smaller hermitage shrines dotting the mountainside, and if timing allows, observe or participate in an afternoon chanting ceremony. The guide contextualises the symbolism of every painting, sculpture, and lantern. Lunch is at a mountain tofu restaurant near the park — a local ritual in itself.
Good to know
Gyeryongsan is approx. 80 min from Daesan by private car — confirm all-aboard time and plan a full-day departure. The hike is moderate (2–3 hrs round-trip on well-maintained paths). Dress modestly for temple entry; bring layered clothing.
