Mandal: Norway's Southernmost Town & Paradisbukta Beach

Explore Mandal — Norway's sunniest, southernmost town — strolling its beautifully preserved 18th-century wooden quarter before descending to Paradisbukta ('Paradise Bay'), the country's finest sandy beach. A refined, unhurried taste of Sørlandet at its most seductive.

What to expect

The drive east from Lyngdal (30 minutes) is itself scenic, hugging the Sørlandet coastline. Mandal's pastel-painted wooden town centre — one of the best-preserved in Norway — is perfect for a slow morning wander, taking in the 19th-century church, local galleries, and artisan boutiques. Paradisbukta is a ten-minute walk through fragrant pine forest and delivers a crescendo: a sweeping arc of fine white sand backed by dunes, with water clean enough to swim in. Lunch at a harbourside restaurant on fresh local shrimp and crayfish is the ideal finale.
