An intimate afternoon in a traditional machiya, sharing kaiseki cuisine and an authentic tea ceremony guided by a working geiko.
What to expect
You'll be welcomed into a quiet tatami room where a kaiseki chef presents seasonal courses course by course. The geiko then performs the tea ceremony, explaining each gesture's meaning, and invites guests to try whisking matcha themselves. The afternoon closes with a short traditional dance performance in full costume.
Good to know
Book at least 6-8 weeks out as geiko availability is limited. Kyoto is roughly 90 minutes from most Osaka-area ports, so this suits calls with long port days.
