Antiques Market Tour in Buenos Aires

The main event is the big Sunday antique market in San Telmo. Expect a lively, crowded street fair that stretches for blocks with 200+ stalls selling everything from old silver mate gourds and vintage leather goods to mid-century furniture, vinyl records, and random bric-a-brac. It's part treasure hunt, part tourist scrum. You'll also find plenty of street performers, empanada vendors, and locals browsing alongside visitors. The experience is atmospheric and fun for a couple of hours, but it gets hot, loud, and shoulder-to-shoulder by midday. A shorter guided walk can help you navigate the best sections without wasting time on junk.

Go between late spring and early autumn (November to April) for pleasant weather; winter can be chilly and damp. Expect to pay around $40-90 per person for a half-day small-group tour including pickup, or just show up on your own for free and budget $15-30 on transport and snacks. Serious collectors should arrive early (from 9am) before the tour buses unload. Skip the overpriced "antique" stalls near the main plaza that mostly sell reproductions aimed at tourists; instead focus on the smaller side streets for genuine old tools, glassware, and Argentine silver. Bargain hard but politely—prices are flexible.
