Bavaro Beach Kitesurfing in Punta Cana: What to Know

Bavaro Beach is one of the better spots in Punta Cana for kitesurfing thanks to its consistent side-shore wind, wide sandy beach, and relatively flat water inside the reef. Expect a lively but not overcrowded scene during the day. The water stays warm year-round, the wind is side-on, and the lagoon-like inner area is forgiving for beginners. Once you get past the reef line it can get choppier. Lessons usually happen in the protected inner zone; independent riders head further out. The beach itself is long, so even when there are several schools running, you rarely feel on top of each other.

Best time is December through April when the trade winds blow most reliably at 15-25 knots. June to October is off-season: lighter and less consistent wind, though cheaper and quieter. Expect to pay around $150-220 for a 3-hour beginner group lesson including gear. A full 2- or 3-day course usually lands between $380-650 depending on group size and whether you want more hours on the water. Private instruction adds roughly 50-70% to the price.

Tip: book a multi-day package if you're a beginner; one day is rarely enough to get up and riding. Skip the random guys walking the beach with boards; they often have old gear and no insurance.
