Beitou Hot Springs: Worth It?

Beitou offers a straightforward hot springs experience about 30 minutes from central Taipei by MRT. You’ll find public foot baths, a small park, and several bathhouses ranging from basic to upscale. The water is clear, slightly sulfuric, and emerges at around 50-60°C. Most places let you soak in indoor pools, outdoor tubs, or private rooms. Expect a relaxed, no-frills atmosphere rather than luxury resort vibes. It’s popular with both locals and tourists, so weekends can feel busy.

The best time is autumn through spring (October to April) when the cooler air makes the hot water feel especially good. Summer works too if you go early morning or evening to avoid the heat and crowds. Expect to pay around NT$300–800 per person depending on whether you choose a simple public bath, a mid-range spa with multiple pools and sauna, or a private room for two. Food and drinks near the station add another NT$200–400.

Pick a place with outdoor pools so you can enjoy the mountain air while soaking. Skip the overpriced “luxury” resorts near the station; the mid-tier options give you the same water quality for less money. Bring your own towel and toiletries unless you want to rent them – it’s cheaper and more comfortable that way.
