This is a flat, easy 10-15 mile round-trip ride along the Guadalupe River Trail that runs from downtown San Jose toward Alviso. You’ll pedal past parks, some light industry, wetlands, and birds. Expect a mix of paved path, a few underpasses, and decent but not perfect maintenance. It’s not wilderness—urban sounds stay nearby—but it’s surprisingly green and peaceful once you’re a couple miles in. The ride itself is straightforward; most people finish in 1.5–3 hours depending on how often they stop.
Best time is spring or fall. Summers get hot and the trail offers almost no shade; winters can be wet and occasionally flood. Aim for mornings when it’s cooler and less crowded. Expect to pay around $25–45 total per person: bike rental for half a day plus a cheap trail map or coffee stop. No guided tours are necessary unless you want company.
Pick the northern section toward the bay if you want birds and open views; skip the first mile from downtown if you don’t like riding near traffic. Bring water and sunscreen—there are few places to buy supplies once you’re on the trail. It’s a solid half-day activity if you enjoy cycling at your own pace without big hills or crowds.
