The half-day Blue Cave boat tour from Dubrovnik takes you to the famous glowing sea cave on Koločep island plus a couple of other stops for swimming and snorkeling. Expect about four to five hours total. The cave itself is genuinely striking when the sunlight hits the water just right, turning it electric blue. Most tours also pause at Sunj Beach on Lopud for a swim and sometimes a quick look at the Green Cave. It’s a small-group speedboat experience with 10–20 people, so it feels social but not chaotic. The ride can get bumpy if the wind picks up; bring a light jacket and waterproof bag for your phone.
Best time is late spring (May–June) or early fall (September–early October). The sea is calmer, crowds are thinner, and you’re far more likely to get good light inside the cave. July and August are hotter, busier, and the boats run more frequently but often feel rushed. Expect to pay around €45–€70 per person depending on group size and whether it includes snorkel gear and a drink. Private boats for four to six people run €300–€450 total.
Pick the smaller-group morning departure; you’ll hit the cave with better light and fewer boats queued up. Skip the cheapest large tours that add too many extra stops and leave almost no time in the water. If you get seasick easily, take something beforehand—the channel between islands can be choppy.
