Most boat tours head 30 minutes north of the city to Tigre and the Paraná Delta. Expect a mix of wide brown river, narrow channels lined with wooden houses on stilts, and lots of vegetation. The classic trip lasts 1–2 hours with a quick stop in Tigre town to walk around the market or riverside promenade. City-center Rio de la Plata tours are shorter, stay closer to the skyline, and feel more like a quick photo run than an actual excursion. The delta version is calmer and greener; the port-area ones can be windy and repetitive unless the weather is perfect.
Best time is spring (October–December) or autumn (March–May) when temperatures are mild and the river isn’t too choppy. Summer can be brutally hot on the water with no shade; winter is cold and often cancelled due to wind. Expect to pay around $35–70 per person for a standard half-day tour including transport from Buenos Aires. Full-day options with lunch push closer to $100–150.
Tip: choose a small-group delta boat that includes the train or bus transfer from the city — it’s more relaxing and you see the actual delta instead of just the industrial edge of the city. Skip the dinner cruises; the food is average, the music loud, and you mostly sit in the dark looking at distant lights.
