The Singapore Botanic Gardens deliver a calm, well-maintained green space in the middle of the city. Expect wide paths, towering trees, and large open lawns where locals picnic or do tai chi. The National Orchid Garden is the clear highlight — hundreds of carefully labelled orchids in cool, shaded houses. The rest feels like a very nice public park: pleasant but not mind-blowing if you've seen good tropical gardens before. It's easy to walk the whole thing in 2–3 hours at a relaxed pace. Bring water and wear comfortable shoes; it can get humid even in the shade.
Visit early morning (opens at 5am) or after 4pm to avoid the worst heat and crowds. The gardens are fine year-round, but December to February tends to be slightly cooler and less humid. Expect to pay around $10–25 per person total. The basic garden entry is free; you'll pay extra only if you enter the National Orchid Garden and any optional guided walk. A simple taxi or MRT ride from most central hotels costs little.
Pick the National Orchid Garden and the nearby Ginger Garden. Skip the so-called "healing garden" and any paid night tour unless you're really into guided botany at night — the daytime self-guided visit is more relaxing and better value. Bring insect repellent; mosquitoes appear as soon as you slow down near water features.
