A full-day Cape Peninsula tour takes you out of Cape Town along the Atlantic seaboard, through Hout Bay, down the peninsula to the Cape of Good Hope and Cape Point, then usually back via Simon's Town for the penguin colony at Boulders Beach. Expect a long day (9-10 hours) with plenty of stops, scenic coastal views, strong wind at the Point, and a mix of dramatic cliffs, fynbos, and tourist infrastructure. It's beautiful but quite commercial – you'll share the main viewpoints with bus groups. The drive itself is the highlight; the "must-see" spots feel more like checkboxes than profound experiences.
Best time is November to March for longer days and better weather, though December and January get very busy and windy. Shoulder months (October, April) often give the sweetest balance. Expect to pay around $60–120 per person depending on group size, inclusions, and whether it's a small-group or large coach tour. Private tours sit at the higher end.
Tip: Prioritise a smaller group tour with decent time at Cape Point Nature Reserve so you can walk a bit instead of just photo-stopping. Skip the seal island boat trip at Hout Bay if you're short on time or prone to seasickness – it's fine but not essential. Bring windproof layers, sunscreen, and patience for traffic on the return.
