Most Munich castle tours mean a long day on a coach heading to Neuschwanstein and usually Linderhof. Expect 10–12 hours door-to-door, heavy crowds at the sites, and beautiful Alpine scenery mixed with a lot of waiting. The castles themselves are impressive – Neuschwanstein looks like a fairy-tale postcard up close, while Linderhof feels more intimate and ornate. Inside visits are guided and timed; you won’t wander freely. The trip is tiring but genuinely memorable if you like grand 19th-century fantasy architecture.
Best time is late spring or early fall. Summer gets painfully crowded with long lines; winter offers fewer tourists but some trails and views may be closed and transport less reliable. Expect to pay around €80–130 per person depending on whether it’s a basic coach tour or one with a smaller group and entrance tickets included. Train-only options to Füssen can be cheaper if you want more control.
Tip: Choose the version that includes both Neuschwanstein and Linderhof – seeing just one feels incomplete for the travel time. Skip the big-group tours with on-board shopping stops if you can; they add unnecessary hours. Book tickets for the castles in advance or you risk being shut out even with the tour.
