Should You Do the San Jose Cave Tour?

The San Jose cave tour is a straightforward half-day trip from Valencia. You ride a small boat through a narrow underground river inside a limestone cave system, then walk through illuminated chambers with stalactites and rock formations. The whole experience lasts about 45-60 minutes inside the caves. It's cool (around 16-18°C) and damp year-round, so bring a light jacket even in summer. The boat sections are peaceful but can feel a bit touristy when groups bunch up; the lighting is dramatic but man-made, so don't expect total darkness or total silence.

Best time to go is spring or autumn when it's less crowded and the surrounding countryside looks good on the drive over. Summers get hot and busy; winters are quieter but can feel chilly. Expect to pay around €35-55 per person including transport from Valencia, or €15-25 if you're driving yourself. Guided tours with pickup are the easier option if you don't have a car.

Tip: Choose the morning slot if possible — fewer groups and better energy. Skip combining it with other distant attractions in one day; the round trip from Valencia already eats up 4-5 hours total. It's worth doing once if you like geological sights, but it's not life-changing. The boat ride is the real highlight; the walking part is shorter and less memorable.
