Cooking Classes in Ho Chi Minh City

A typical cooking class in Ho Chi Minh City lasts 3–5 hours and usually starts with a trip to a wet market. You’ll pick out herbs, vegetables, and maybe some seafood while the instructor explains what locals actually buy and why. Then you head back to a kitchen (often in a converted house) to cook 3–4 dishes—spring rolls, a stir-fry, soup, and a caramelized meat or fish dish. Everything is hands-on; you cook your own food then eat it at the end. Classes are small, usually 6–12 people, and the vibe is casual and social. English is standard but accents and pacing vary.

Best time is the dry season from December to April when it’s less humid and market visits are more comfortable. Expect to pay around $35–65 per person; morning classes with a proper market tour sit at the higher end, while afternoon “just the cooking” sessions are cheaper. Book at least a couple of weeks ahead if you’re visiting during peak season (Dec–Feb).

Tip: Choose a class that includes the market tour—it’s genuinely the most interesting part. Skip the ones that add coffee workshops or cyclo rides unless you really want the extras; they mostly just inflate the price and eat up time. Go hungry and bring a small notebook or phone—recipes move fast once you start chopping.
