Craft Beer Tasting in Santa Ana

Santa Ana has a small but solid craft beer scene that’s easy to combine with a day trip from San José. Expect a handful of brewpubs and taprooms pouring straightforward IPAs, saisons, stouts, and the occasional tropical-fruit sour. Most places are casual—communal tables, loud music, and a mix of locals, expats, and weekend tourists. Flights of four to six small pours are the usual way to taste so you don’t commit to a full pint of anything weird. The vibe is relaxed rather than pretentious; nobody will lecture you about mouthfeel unless you ask.

Best time is the dry season (December to April) when roads are reliable and outdoor seating is pleasant. Evenings Thursday through Saturday are liveliest. Plan on spending around $18–35 per person for a flight or two plus a couple of full beers and a shared snack plate. Add taxi or Uber fares if you’re not driving.

Tip: start with the lighter beers and finish with darker or sour ones; palates get wrecked in the opposite order. Skip the overly sweet “fruitshake” IPAs if you actually like hops—they’re made for the local sweet tooth and can taste like candy. Grab a table outside if the music inside gets too loud.
