You ride over stony tracks and rolling sand dunes in the Agafay “desert” (it’s more rocky semi-desert than Sahara). The ride itself is short — usually 45-90 minutes of actual driving — mixed with a sunset camel ride, tea in a Berber-style camp, and a basic dinner if you book the evening option. It’s touristy but the landscape is dramatic, especially at golden hour. It’s not a deep wilderness experience; you’ll see other groups and power lines in the distance.

Best time is October to early April when it’s not brutally hot. Summer rides are possible but exhausting after 11am. Expect to pay around $60-110 per person depending on group size, duration, and whether it includes dinner and pickup. Private or small-group tours sit at the higher end and are noticeably better.

Pick the sunset version if you only do one — the light makes the scenery twice as good. Skip the full-day tours that add quad biking, camel riding, and a show all in one; they feel rushed. Wear closed shoes, long trousers, and bring a buff or scarf — the dust is real. If you hate guided group activities, this probably isn’t for you.
