Expect a long but doable day. Most people leave LA between 6-7am and get to the park around 8-8:30. You'll walk a lot, stand in lines, and be on your feet for 10-12 hours. The experience is pure theme park: colorful, loud, crowded, and surprisingly emotional for many adults. Rides are excellent, characters and shows are well done, but it's not relaxing. If you're not into theme parks, this will feel like an expensive endurance test.
Best time is mid-September to mid-November or late January to early March when crowds are lighter and weather is pleasant. Summer and Christmas weeks are brutally crowded. Expect to pay around $180–$280 per person for a 1-day ticket depending on the date and whether you add park-hopping. Transportation from LA adds roughly $60–$90 round-trip if you book a shared shuttle from your hotel. Food and souvenirs inside will run another $50–$80 easily.
Smart choice: buy a single-park ticket for Disneyland Park only on a weekday and skip California Adventure unless you really want to see Cars Land. Get the app, use the single-rider lines when available, and don't try to do everything. Skip character breakfasts and sit-down meals; grab quick-service food instead. If your group has young kids or you're not excited about rides, consider Universal Studios instead—it's closer and easier from LA.
