Distillery Tasting in Dallas: Worth It?

Dallas has a handful of working distilleries that open their doors for tastings, usually in industrial pockets south or east of downtown. Expect a casual, no-frills experience: you’ll stand or sit at a simple bar, meet the distiller or a tasting-room employee, and try three to five small pours of vodka, gin, whiskey, or seasonal experiments. Tours, when offered, are short (15-30 minutes) and focus on the equipment you can see from the tasting area rather than long production lectures. It’s closer to visiting a brewery taproom than a formal Kentucky distillery tour.

The best time is late fall through early spring; summers get brutally hot and many spots cut hours. Weekday afternoons are quieter than weekends. Expect to pay around $15–$35 per person for a basic tasting flight; add $10–20 if you want a guided tour or a cocktail. Total for two people with an Uber there and back usually lands between $80–$130.

Pick any whiskey or barrel-aged gin they have; those are where local distillers tend to do their best work. Skip the flavored vodkas unless you just want something sweet—most are unremarkable. Tip: eat a proper meal beforehand. The pours add up faster than you expect and there’s rarely serious food on site.
