Should You Go to the Eiffel Tower Summit?

The summit (third level) of the Eiffel Tower gives you a 360-degree view over Paris at about 276 meters. Expect tight elevators, crowds even with timed tickets, and wind that can be surprisingly strong. The top platform is relatively small, so you’ll share it with dozens of other people taking photos. The views are genuinely impressive on a clear day—you can pick out most major landmarks—but the experience is more about saying you’ve been to the top than lingering in serenity. The second floor actually offers better photo angles of the city and more space to move around.

Best time is spring (April–June) or early autumn (September–October) when the weather is usually decent and lines aren’t quite as brutal. Avoid July, August, and any major holiday weekends. Expect to pay around €50–85 per adult for a timed summit ticket, more if you add a guide or skip-the-line perks. Basic second-floor access is noticeably cheaper if you’re on a budget.

Honest tips: Book the earliest morning slot you can get; the tower is far more pleasant before the big tour groups arrive. Skip the overpriced summit-only guided tours unless you really want commentary—audio guides or even a good free app work fine. If you’re afraid of heights or it’s a gray day, just go to the second floor instead and save the money and wait time.
