Expect a steep but short stone staircase climb of about 20-30 minutes to the first main viewpoint. The trail continues further to a couple more overlooks and the summit if you want. The payoff is a direct, often dramatic view of Taipei 101 and the city skyline, especially striking at sunset or after dark when the building lights up. It gets crowded with tourists and locals; weekends and golden hour are busiest. The path is well-maintained but can be slippery when wet, and there are no big facilities once you start climbing.
Best time is late afternoon through dusk from October to April when the weather is cooler and clearer. Summer is hot, humid, and rainy — avoid unless you like sweating through your shirt. Expect to pay around NT$200-500 total per person including MRT transport, a drink, and maybe a simple meal afterward in Xinyi. Entry is free.
Tip: Go on a weekday late afternoon and continue past the first crowded platform to the second or third overlook for fewer people. Skip trying to do this as part of a full-day hiking plan — it's better as a quick add-on before dinner and shopping in the modern district below.
